What Causes Recurrent Pain At The Glans With Cloudy Urine?

Pain at tip of penis.... I m a 37 year old male, approximately 14 weeks ago I had unprotected sex and approximately 5 weeks ago I had protected sex with a different partner. About 3 weeks ago I started experiencing sharp pains at the tip of my penis and a throbbing discomfort at the base of my penis on the left side. The pains come and go. Sometimes I feel the pains at the tip of my penis during the initial burst of urination, sometimes after urination and sometimes its just random. I have noticed that my urine is cloudy. I haven t noticed any discharge. I have noticed slight irritation and redness at the tip of my urethra. Approximately 10 weeks after my unprotected sexual encounter I had an STD test for HIV, Hep B, Hep C, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes I and Herpes II. All negative except HSV 1 IgG - 8.42. I had an STD test in 2011 also with all negative results except for HSV 1 - 1.72. I have never experienced any HSV symptoms on my genitals and can t recall any HSV symptoms on my lips. So I guess my questions are could I have been re-infected with HSV 1 and that is why the value has went up and now I m experiencing urethral symptoms? Could this be Chlamydia or Gonorrhea and I tested too early (urine test)? Is this possibly a UTI and not related to STD s?

Hello,

You are suffering from sharp pain at the tip of penis and throbbing discomfort at the base of the penis at the left side. The pain is random, it comes and goes. You have irritation and redness at the tip of the urethra and also cloudy urine. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a urologist and get urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done. If UTI is detected, you will be treated with a course of specific antibiotics.

Stay well hydrated to flush out the toxins. You have history of having HSV 1, you are suggested to get a repeat STD test and tests for HSV 1 and 2 done. If the tests come positive you will be treated with antibiotics and antivirals. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are also STIs. Abstain from any sexual activity till you are being treated. Avoid unprotected sex.

Avoid multiple partners to stay on the safer side. Stay away from addictions if any. It is recommended that your partners also get STD tests done. In the meantime, you can apply a thin layer of Zovirax ointment on the area affected for relief. You can take Acetaminophen or Combiflam to get relieve from hurting and discomfort. Take care of your hygiene, Wear soft cotton clothes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
