What Causes Recurrent Pain In The Head?

Hi, I am having a sharp pain on the very top of my head on the right side. I woke up to get me child milk and when I got back in bed it was sudden then went away quickly. It repeats about every couple minutes and I am now having a slight dull headache on the right side. I don t have headaches often and have never had pain in this area before. Like I said, it s the top of my head right side close to center of the top. Feels closer to surface of head then deep.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

One possible diagnosis is TRIGEMINAL AUTONONIC CEPHALGIA (TAC) of the "ice pick" or "Primary Stabbing Headache" type. Diagnosis is done by first ruling out anything that could be irritating the trigeminal nerve which radiates to many parts of the face and head and then, to have a patient keep a detailed log of the episodes. Most TAC's have a frequency of 1-3x/day although in many cases (some of my patients) can have scores of them in 24 hrs. I have one patient with a calculated number of 440 episodes per day!

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
