What Causes Recurring Blood In Stool?

I have blood in my stool every now and then....i dont really keep track of it, but it has been happening for a year or so now, and somewhat frequently. Sometimes there may be some time that may go by, but it happens again. I have no pain or discomfort. Is this something I should be concerned about? The blood is sometimes bright red and sometimes dark red....

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Blood in stool every now and then that is fresh and dark red might be due to the following reasons:
Pile as also called as hemorrhoids.
Polyps.
Cancer or so.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get an opinion of a General Surgeon.
Get ano-proctoscopy and per-rectal digital examination.
Colonoscopy is mandatory in all such cases.
Waiting for one year with such symptoms can be detrimental hence get the things done as soon as possible.
Once diagnosed get an appropriate treatment carried on which may be a surgery.
