What Causes Recurring Sharp Pain In The Throat?

Infrequently, I get horrible a horrible cramp on left side of my throat. It feels as if I cannot breathe, I have a lot of saliva that pours out of my mouth and then the area is sore for several days. It feels like a narrower mucsle right against the middle of my throat, maybe geniohyoid?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about having horrible cramp on the left side of throat, feels as if can not breathe, lots of salivation, soreness lasts for many days.
All your history is indicative of an inflammatory process going on the left side of pharynx.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult an ENT Surgeon immediately for ENT Endoscopy.
CT scan of the pharynx and neck.
A course of an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory to see for the results and if the problem is due to infection this will settle down.
If the problem is like a cancer then a biopsy and further management as per the investigations reports and plan by Cancer Specialist.
Get started as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
