Hello and Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

The symptom you mention in query is occurring due to
pericoronitis that is inflammation of pericoronal flap . This occur when person bite gum flap on
impacted wisdom tooth the flap become swollen and harness food debris and bacteria and get infected . When left untreated this infection can spread to the surroundings like tonsils .
I would suggest to :-
- Do warm saline rinses several times a day .
- Maintain proper
oral hygiene specially area of wisdom tooth .
- Take advil for pain and swelling .
- Avoid eating from affected side .
The condition will resolve in 3-5 days with above treatment .
If condition persist for more then a week the consult oral surgeon for proper diagnosis .
Doctor may order X-ray to check the position of tooth ,That weather the tooth is impacted or not .
Doctor may clean the site with betadine for few days regularly , prescribe antibiotics (
amoxicillin) for at least 5 days or may extracted the
impacted tooth to prevent the reoccurring.
I hope it helps.
