What Causes Recurring Vaginal Bleeding?

I have been on vivlle dot .05 for several years along with progestrin 100 mg. I have had no surgery am 58 years old and in the last year experienced break through bleeding every two weeks. Doc appointment yesterday suggested I lower vivelle to .375 and see if the bleeding subsides. I certainly do not want to have any hot flashes or menapausal symptons. What s the opinion of lowering the dosage?
