What Causes Red And Puffy Genital Area In A Child?
my 2 year old son s genital area is red and puffy around his penis. my wife and i just noticed it tonight after we got him out of the bath. he didn t want us to put his diaper on and when i asked him what hurt he pointed to that area. he has had a slight fever off and on for the past 24 hours and is drooling with a very snotty nose - running constantly. he just had his check up at the doctor on friday and was given a clean bill of health - we are taking him back first thing in the morning. is the redness and the puffiness around his genitals an immediate concern or can it wait til morning?
Hi, Welcome to Hcm, I understand your concern and your child is having a condition which is not a medical emergency. Its an infection of the skin at the tip of penis. It can cause severe pain, so the discomfort for him. For the night what you can do is have a tub of Luke warm water and put some salt into it and make him sit inside that by immersing his genitals inside water for a duration of 20-25 mins . its called sitz bath and that will reduce his discomfort. You can show him to doctor in the morning and apply the medicine he prescribes. Hope your child gets well soon. Take care.
