What Causes Red Blotchy Spots On The Knees?

The skin on my knees and below get red-blotchy spots whenever I m outside in the sun or when I m in the shower/after I take a shower. I ve had this as long as I can remember. Me, my sisters, and my mom have this. Once I get my legs out of the heat, the spots start darkening to a brownish color, then just blend in with my skin.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history you are probably suffering from urticaria ( after sun-exposure)
My treatment advice is -
1. Avoid sun exposure and use a good sunscreen lotion with spf more than 30.
2. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days and then taper it to once daily for 20 days.
3. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone and higher antihistamines like hydroxyzine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
MBBS, DDVL.
