Hi. I am 12wks pregnant and am developing these big painful red bumps on my chin. They seep out an oil like clear liquid! Ive had them a few times before i was pregnant, but they are out of control now leaky and very painful. What can i do about these and how can i get rid of them or atleast get the swelling down? Thanks...Nicci

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I can understand your concern. The skin problem you have is inflamation of oil glands under skin. These are common in pregnancy due to inflammation of oil secreting glands under skin -due to pregnancy hormones. here ladies have oily skin, which gets stuck with dust in climate, the gland is blocked & inflammed. The problem can be managed by- Repeated face washing with mld face wash- thus avoiding oilyness/ sweating of skin. - Taking steam twice a week to open up the gland ducts pores, - Not manipulating already existing bumps. Just keep them clean & dry.Apply slight skin ointment if infected, - take antibiotic, anti inflammatory medicines in severe cases. Thanks.
