What Causes Red Dry Patch Of Skin On Shaft Of The Penis?

Hello Doctor, For the past week or so I noticed the formation of a red dry patch of circular skin on the shaft of my penis. prior to this, I found the spot to be somewhat itchy and mildly irritated. I am unsure if my scratching caused this or if I have any reason to believe it is something more serious.

Hello,

A red dry patch of skin on the shaft of the penis, circular in shape is indicative of jock itch. Do not touch or scratch. Touching or scratching will cause spread of the infection. You are suggested to take a course of antifungal orally. You can apply ointment clotrimazole on the affected area. Healing duration may be about 2-3 weeks' time.

At times, it may take a little longer to heal, that happens when it is chronic. During these times, use a antifungal ointment on the affected area for the duration of a month. Take care of your hygiene. Do not let the private area get sweaty. Fungal infection grows very fast in moist & warmth. Keep the private area dry and cool. Stay away from smoking, alcohol or drugs. Avoid sex, do not use sex toys and any sexual activity for a couple of days.
