What Causes Red Itchy Rashes Around Stitches From Operation?

Hi, I had a suspicious lesion removed from my temple three days ago. It looked like it was healing as it should after I removed the bandage after 24 hours as per my doctor. I haven t replaced any bandaging and I ve been putting a small amount of Vaseline on the stitches to keep the edges moist. But as of yesterday I noticed a red itchy rash starting around the stitches. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Hi. The rashes around stitches could be due to allergy to adhesive materials of bandage. You should consult a dermatologist to confirm if it is allergic reaction. By the way, you have removed bandage. If its allergic reaction, it should subside in a couple of days. Meanwhile you should take non-sedating antihistamine like cetrizine to control itching. Ithching and subsquent skin damage might result in infection. Thanks
