Hi, just wanted to know why a red spot, somewhat of a little bump on my second left toe seems to be persisting. It is not painful; however, it began during the cold winter months when I was walking in the snow with the dog, but now seems to be persisting. It seems to be pretty clear in the morning and then reddish appearance by night time. Once in a great while it may be a little itchy~~ Thanks, greatly appreciated!
It may be chilblain..also called pernio is. It is caused by long term exposure to cold. It may be reduced after avoiding the exposure to cold. But, it may relapse. If there is pain, paracetamol may be taken. Treatment of perniosis consists of protection from cold and warming the affected areas slowly. And avoid scratching or rubbing the affected area to avoid further damage to the skin. Corticosteroid creams may help relieve the intense itching. The calcium channel blocker drug nifedipine can be an effective treatment in relieving the symptoms of cold related perniosis. Other treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
