Hello,

I think you need to be more descriptive about the red - purple spots. If your son has an occasional cough but is breathing easily, and sneezing with a runny nose but no fever - then you're OK at home. But it is unusual and concerning if he has small pink or purple little spots or dots that are related to these symptoms.

Then he needs to be seen immediately (these are called petechiae). If he has hives or target lesions, then he should be evaluated. But, if the pink and purple spots are just mosquito bites and are not red or infected, then that's a totally different matter and not related to an illness.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lisa Baker, Pediatrician
