What Causes Red Raised Dots On Abdomen After Bowel Obstruction Laparotomy?
I had a small bowel obstruction laparotomy surgery on Aug 2nd. They found adhesions at the distal jejunum and removed them. There was mention of probable ileus. During my stay heparin was given subcutaneously into my abdomen twice a day. I was released from the hospital yesterday morning. This evening my abdomen is covered in red dots that feel raised yet are not itchy. Need I be concerned. Also they had me eating regular food day two after surgery. I have been eating regular food since Aug 4th and only had one very very small bm. Am I to be concerned as of yet.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history of laparotomy for releasing the adhesion of jejunum, started eating on day 2 and was given heparin in abdomen twice daily; developed non-itchy many red dots on abdominal wall that feel raised. The most probably cause can be petechial rash due to heparin. I would advise you to rush to the Doctor or ER to have clinical evaluation as to whether this is reaction to something or due to overdose of heparin of infection in the abdominal wall. Get the bleeding and coagulation profile of blood. Stop heparin if still is given. Get proper diagnosis and treatment as per the clinical findings and lab tests.
