What Causes Red Spots In The Area Where Blood Has Been Drawn?

Hi, I gave blood about 11 days ago, and the spot where they drew the blood from has begun to be surrounded by red spots and bumps, similar to a rash. The actual point where the needle entered seems a little swollen as well, and is red. It doesn t hurt or itch, just wondering if I should take any cautionary measures

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As you have drawn blood 11 days ago, most probably, it was a hematoma that it showed there. This is a known fact. We usually recommend to apply compresses for the first 2 to 3 days after blood withdrawn. In your case, should apply warm compresses (11 days already) to help disperse the coagulated blood and return to normal.

If still no improvement, should consult further with your caring doctor as might require special medical help.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

All the best.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
