Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My friend has a history of a stroke and has blood clots in his ankles that he has been treated for previously. Since yesterday he developed large red spots under the skin in the thigh region. Could these be blood clots? (he does not have any known allergies)
Hello and welcome to HCM, A history of clotting and formation of large red spots on thigh is suggestive of purpura. Purpuric patches are large patches cased by hemorrhage. Stroke and blood clots are usually treated by anti-coagulants. The dose of anti-coagulants is titrated by measuring PT and INR. Thus, I suggest you to consult your treating doctor and to get coagulation tests PT and INR. The condition can be treated by monitoring the dose of anti-coagulant.
