Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This morning I went to the "bathroom" and discovered my very loose stool was dark red and maroon. I have had a green stool in the past as the result of eating or drinking anything with "grape." Yesterday I ate too much blackberry jelly about the same color as this mornings discharge. However, the "diarrhea" red and maroon color has persisted more than 24 hours. Now I am worried it is blood. I have had an issue with diverticulosis years ago. However, at that time I had a severe stomach ache and not a stool issue. I have also had hemmoroids(sp); ....... very little bleeding. Thanks Bob
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Dark marrol colour stools may be due to iron tablet consumption or antacids that contain bismuth subsalisilate or food colouring agents and beetroot eating etc..
hemorrhods or fissure or diverticulitis may present with blood.
until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.
