What Causes Red, Swollen, Itchy Burning Eyes?

I have terrible allergies and this spring it affected my eyes more than usual. Red, swollen, itchy, burning, matted in morning, broken blood vessels, eyes! I saw a NP and was diagnosed w/pink eye and got Antibiotic drops. They got worse so went to eye doctor and he said to stop the drops and just use cold peas on them and let them heal themself! They got worse- eyes swelling shut, etc. googled and found pic that matched my eyes. Bliferitus dermatitis. Saw a dermatitis and was given steroid ointment and told to go back to using allergy drops. No make up, etc. started clearing up immediately. My concern is that my broken blood vessels never cleared totally and have gotten worse again. Eye doctor says no steroids cause it slows healing, dermatologist says steroids for 2 weeks, who do I believe? I've been sufferering with this for over 3 weeks and worried about permanent damage to eyes.
