Hello there, thanks for your query.
There could be two things happening.
1. Sometimes periods may just start as spotting bfor few days and then begin with proper flow. This happens due to insufficient progesterone in the body ( hormone that is produced after ovulation) and is usually harmless. But if it continues many months and it bothers you, you may do good with a short term monthly supplementation of progesterone from day 16 to day 25 for few months or birth control pills.

If you think you are experiencing pain along with discharge, the spotting could be anywhere lower down in the genital tract and can be due to any kind of trauma and even this will settle down on its own. But if you are experiencing spotting along any kind of discharge ( yellow, greenish etc) with or without pain and burning sensation when you pass urine do schedule an appointment with your doctor to have a look at you for any genital tract infection. Also remember to use barrier contraceptives to protect yourself from unwanted sexually transmitted diseases.
Hope this has answered your query. Take care!
