What Causes Redness And Burning Sensation In Soft Palate?
I have a red area on my soft palette, along with dry mouth and a slight burning sensation (just thought I was thirsty). My dentist gave me chlorhexidine gluconate rinse (the redness did not go away) and then I saw an oral surgeon that gave me dexamethasone to use as a mouth wash (swishing in mouth for 2 to 3 min 4 times a day) It has not helped either. I do have low B12, take thyroid med, smoke about 6-10 cigarettes a day and feel good & healthy (other than this). Your advise/suggestions
HI. This condition is called aphthoid ulcers and need a combined treatment of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics; therapeutic dosage of Vitamin A and D , to be continued as multivitamins. You have to take injections of Vitamin B12. You can a short course of oral steroids and stop chlorhexidine mouth washes as it is a chemical. Take soft and bland diet. Avoid too hot and too cold foods and beverages; they cause a trauma to the healing edge and that is why it becomes late in healing.
The cause of most of the lesions like this loss of integrity of the oral mucosa. The exact cause is not known.
This helps all my patients and will help you too.
