What Causes Redness And Itching On Toes After A Pedicure?
Hello, after a gentle pedicure a week ago, my toes are all red across the top, were itchy in between too. Never had anything like this. 78yrs and good health, do have heart condition. Well controlled. Just intrigued about this - since day after pedicure. Thank you so much. Daphne
Mam, Beauty parlour procedures such as pedicure involves nails being trimmed from rounded edges which allows the nail to grow into the skin/nail fold. as the naill, begin to grow inward between the skin/nail interface, it brings dirt and debris under the skin, which leads to infection termed Paronychia.
it presents with pain over distal toe at the skin/nail interface along with redness, swelling with purulent discharge. treatment consist of simply soaking the feet in warm water for about 20 minutes once a day, antibiotic like tab cefixime 200mg twice a day for 5 days, and apply neosporin cream or ointment twice a day until the pain and redness has gone.
also itching between the fingers and redness over toes suggest fungal infection such as candidiasis. treatment consist of cap itraconazole 100 mg for 7 days followed by 3 wks of no drug administration .this cycle is repeated for 3 months. miconazole (2%) cream can be applied twice a day in between toes and tip of toes.
thank yo
