Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my legs are red & very swollen up to my knees.I ve been told I have cellulitis, & I ve been told I don t. What kind of Dr. should I be seeing? I need a knee replacement, but they won t do it until my legs clear up. Would a blood test tell if I have an infection?
Hi, this swollen painfull red leg may be celluliltis or a deep vein thrombosis. The diagnosis is confirmed by thorough clinical examination and series of test ranging from full blood count, doppler ultrasound of leg and d-dimer. After when diagnosis is confirmed for cellulitis you may need benzylpencillin injections if you are not allergic to it. Deep vein thrombosis may need anticoagulation. I think it is better to get an appointment of a physician to examine you and treat you after confirming the diagnosis. I hope you got your answer,i will be happy to help you further.
