What Causes Restricted Height Growth In The Child?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...my son is 14 years old and just shy of 5 2 tall he has always been just above 50% for height and age. He takes straterra. I am concerned about his growth. His 11 year brother is 5 61/2 tall. I am 5 7 and my husband is 6 4 . What could cause the slowing of his growth.

Hi,

Detailed investigation and treatment of short stature is considered when height is below 3rd centile for age. Although his height is above 25th centile for age, here it is shorter compared to parents height. So it would be fine if you can discuss with his pediatrician to rule out common causes like Hypothyroidism or anemia. If no such causes found out, we need not worry. He will hopefully gain 8-10 cms more during next 1-2 years. Just ensure adequate Iron, calcium and vitamin D in diet.
