I'm sceptical about these instant answer medical sites however I'll give this a go.
My sister is 38 and has special needs. To be more specific she is mentally and not physically handicapped. In the last 2 months she has begun retching. It happens in the morning when she is being showered and it has also occurred when she is about to go out somewhere. She has no ill effects afterwards. I have noticed that her appetite has diminished in the last few months. Prior to this she would eat a massive amount if you let her. Her eating habits are poor in that she rarely chews her food properly, and stuffs her mouth. We have to monitor her all the time. She is 5ft 8in and is approximately 2 stone overweight.
My thoughts are that this could be anxiety related, she is very routine-based and needs constant reassurance that she going to her special school. Or perhaps she may have developed an ulcer as a result of poor eating habits.
The possible reason here for retching and reduced appetite can be:
- Mood alteration - Side effect of certain medications consumed for other ailments - Intestine infection - Intestine flora disturbances from improper mastication - Deficiency of digestive enzymes, vitamins or micro nutrients.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
