Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started having a lot of pain in my right knee about 7 weeks ago. My left knee had this same problem in 1984. When I was mowing the lawn the pain got to severe to get into the house. It feels a little better after a few weeks, but gets worse if I try to walk without crutches. I did see an orthopedic surgeon and he thout I was a long way from needing a replacement. his strategy is a cortisone shot which didn t help at all. I am taking naproxen and glucosomine, and chondriton with no results. don t know if I should see another orthopedic surgeon.

You can benefit from the following:- 1- Rest your joint, by avoiding extreme activity. 2- Take over the counter analgesics such as Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen 3- Apply cold compressors to the joint. 4- Apply topical drugs such as Diclofenac Gel. 5- knee strengthening and stretching exercise program. 6- Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate and steroid injection. 7- Supportive knee devices such as Elastic knee braces. 8- If the symptoms of osteoarthritis are severe and other treatments don't succeed, knee replacement surgery may be a treatment option.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Take care.
