What Causes Runny And Hard Stools?

Hi I am concerned about my dads stools. They have been very dark chalky both runny and hard. It has now been the third day and it does not seem like it is getting better. He has recently got out of hospital where he had bleeding but nothing could be found as to the cause. Previous to that he had an infection with his gallbladder. What next?

Dear Friend.
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I amDr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
This kind of stools can be due to Upper GI Bleed. As you have mentioned that he had bleeding in hospital. In case he had black tarry stools earlier also called as Melena , they can persist upto14days.
The information available here is incomplete to conclude.
If you could give me his detailed medical history and also why he was admitted last time, I would be able to help you better.
Good Luck.
