Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 74 and is diabetic. For the past week, she has been experiencing severe ankle pain in the right leg. She is under doctor's care and her sugar is under control. She's been taking Tylenol and icing her ankle. It has gotten better over the past few days but continues to ache. Not sure what type of physician for her to see; endocrinologist; podiatrist, or her primary care physician in which she sees every 2 months. Any suggestions ?
Hello.. I would advise you to visit an orthopedician.. I would like to know whether she has this problem in both ankles or only one.. Get serum uric acid levels, cbp, esr, crp, rhematoid factor, anti ccp antibody along with xrays of foot. This will definitely give you a clear idea of what is the actual cause. treatment will be given based on the reports. Wish her speedy recovery..good day.
