What Causes Severe Chest Pain And Headaches?

Hi, I've recently started having quite severe chest pain and headaches and have also noticed that one of my eyes has quite a large patch of redness. I'm a 24 year old female and have no history of hypertension, cardiac complaints or any other serious medical condition. I was just wondering if there is anything to worry about or not. Thank you

Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be related to uncontrolled high blood pressure, which is really uncommon at your age.

Other possible causes to consider would be inflammation, or a metabolic disorder.

For this reason, I would recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure values in the next days (in sitting position, after 10 minutes of total relax).

I would also advice consulting with your attending physician for a careful physical exam and some tests:

- a resting ECG
- a chest X ray study
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction
- kidney and liver function tests
- an abdominal ultrasound
- fasting glucose
- cortisol and aldosterone plasma levels for adrenal gland dysfunction.

Other tests may be needed.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
