What Causes Severe Chest Pain While On Lisinopril And Norvasc?

my husband has had three sudden severe chest pain events that include sweating, severe nausea(says he feels as though if he could throw up he would feel better) and extreme weakness. His blood pressure spikes into the 16+/10+ range and he is on lisinopril and norvasc daily with these meds his bp still isn t managed. He refuses to allow me to take him to the ER during these events he has not been under stress, after the events he loses time order. He would absolutely fist fight you over the order of events on the day of one of these events. Other times he flies into sudden fits of rage over the smallest things and stays angry for hours.

Hello,

These spikes of anger suggest high blood pressure. Severe chest pain and sweating can be a sign of angina. Take an appointment with your primary care provider and get an ECG done to rule out heart conditions. The doctor may also suggest tests like TMT, ECHO, etc.

Lisinopril and Norvasc are given to control hypertension (high BP). It does not cause chest pain. May be your husband also needs to follow lifestyle changes apart from taking medicines. 1. Less of salt, less of oily, high carb food, 2. More citrus fruits, plenty of water, fiber-rich food, green leafy vegetables, 3. Cut down on smoking, alcohol, 4. Physical exercise for half an hour per day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sanjay Kini
