What Causes Severe Chest Pain?

I have been experiencing chest pains for the past few weeks. I got chest x rays and my lungs cane back clear. They say I may have strained muscles in my rib cage so they prescribed me prednisone and I began feeling relief. Then today, the pain started coming back and as I was working I sneezed, felt a pop, and a sharp pain that sent me straight to the floor. I can barely turn or standup and had to crawl to my car. My left side is now in excruciating pain. What is happening?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As far as my clinical experience is concerned, the severe left sided chest pain can be:
- Costochondral origin
- Heart or circulation related ischemic changes
- Lung inflammation related.

* As the X-ray and lungs were cleared, I recommend to further evaluate the case in details with 2D echo, TMT and CT scan of thorax.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
