My daughter had a tonsillectomy in November 2014. Now, every time she gets a cold, she gets a loud barking cough that sounds like crup. She has no fever or any other symptoms. She never had this before the surgery. What s going on? How do we resolve this issue? The school won t let her stay because it s so disruptive.
Hi. Thanks for you query. I can understand the plight of your daughter that she has so much coughing that school does not allow her to stay and this happened after tonsillectomy.
The possible causes are: - Allergic in nature as she is getting this type of bouts only after getting cold. - Laryngitis can cause the similar problems, see if her voice also changes or not ? - Post nasal drip with infection causing constant irritation of the throat. - Lastly some problem in the chest like asthma.
I would advise you the following: Clinical evaluation and actual examination of the ENT, Chest by auscultation and relevant tests of blood, X-ray chest can lead to a proper diagnosis and a plan for proper treatment.
