What Causes Severe Cough Along With Thick Phegm?

I had a fever that broke on yesterday night. I have been coughing all night and got the last of thick phlegm out this morning. Since then, my throat has been killing me. It hurts to swallow anything. Is this strep throat? I m concerned about vocal polyps or nodules. Can vocal nodules cause swallowing difficulty? What can I do to treat this?

Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

severe respiratory tract infection can produce cough with thick sputum.

Vocal nodules or polyps are related voice abuse or misuse, but not acute infection.

As such vocal card lesions like polyp or nodules produce voice abnormalities rather than swallowing problems.

You require antibiotic, cough suppresents and mucolytics. visit an ent surgeon for farther evaluation and treatment.

all the best, take care.
