What Causes Severe Cough And A Pinkish Tint In The Mucus?
I have been having trouble with cough for some time and mostly allergy related but also had surgery for thyroid last February and since then have felt a pull once in a while on my vocal cords area. Now I have been coughing for over this month and starting to have some pink color mixed in my mucus. Any ideas?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Pink colour mucous may be due to congestive heart failure, pneumonia or lung abscess or bronchial abscess etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid spicy food and smoking. Take tablet Montelukast Levocetrizine once a day for five days.
Avoid cool drinks and freeze water. Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms do not improve please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
