I have a bad cough since April this year. I have been to my GP and have tried all the cough medicines, expectorants and some home remedies like a mixture of ginger, lemon, honey and cayenne pepper but no luck. I am trying herbs now and I do not feel any better. My chest is wheezy and I cough in every minute day and night. I have no chest pains except that when I cough there is also too much mucus in my nose. When I spit this cough there s a lot of saliva which is foamy too that comes out. This is an embarassment, I can t even be with people. When I breath I have to cough because it as if I breathing in this saliva. What could be wrong Dr. Please help me.
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. I would suggest you undergo a pulmonary function test, ESR, and chest x-ray to diagnose the cause of a persistent cough with no relief from medication. They are various upper and lower respiratory diseases that can cause chronic productive cough, and chest x-ray can provide an insight of the structural problem if any. In addition, the pulmonary function test will provide an overview of your lung function.
The use of home remedies will provide little, or temporary relief. The treatment will vary from use of a short course of steroids to medications that reduce the inflammation like mast cell stabilizers; depending on the underlying cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
