Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I recently had back surgery because I was having pain down both my legs. The surgery was an electiveL3-4 TLIF LUMBAR INTER BODY FUSION. tHE PAIN IN MY LEGS HAVE SUBSIDED FOR THE MOST PART BUT NOW I HAVE SEVERE CRAMPS UP AND DOWN BOTH LEGS AND I DON T HAVE TO BE DOING ANYTHING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. COULD THIS BE RELATED?
I have studied your case and I can assure you that cramps in leg can never be because of spine surgery. Following are common causes of cramps. 1. Low salt in body. 2. Muscle weakness 3. Low calcium and vitamin D 3 4. Low serum B 12 So I would recommend you to start taking salt in juices. Also take tablet calcium and calcitriol. Try to take milk products in diet. I would also recommend you to take Pregabalin and Mrthylcobal daily. Tablet carnisure will also provide relief from cramps. Avoid very cool room temperature. I hope these measures will help you. Let me know if there is any other questions. Thanks
