What Causes Severe Dryness In The Eyes And Mouth After Taking Mucinex Tablet?

I am feeling generally unwell. My mouth is dry as can be, my eyes are equally dry. Like I can t produce saliva. Its nighttime and I don t want to go to the Dr. My legs cramps a few times last night and I don t have any desire or energy to do anything. I am urinating almost every hour. These symptoms came on over a week ago. When I had a bad bronchitis attack and I took Mucinex so I blamed the dryness on the meds. Then I felt like I was starting a yeast infection which I also blamed on the meds. But now its not just the dryness. my HR is betweeh 96-106. Is there something I can do at home tomorrow to feel better? I plan to see the doc on Monday.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Dry mouth and eyes could be due to mucinex you are using. However, the body ache, fatigue and other problems are not related to mucinex and could be due to upper respiratory tract infection due to bacteria. It may need antibiotics for treatment of the infection after consulting an ENT surgeon.

You can start Fluconazole 150 mg (Fole) once a day for 10 days for yeast infection while maintaining general hygiene. For the dry mouth, you can keep sipping cold water at small intervals, chew sugarless candies. In addition, you can use over-the-counter Pilocarpine to stimulate salivary flow. The effect of this tablet might stay for 4 hours. You can use it 3-4 times a day. Avoid sour and spicy food. For the dry eyes, you may want to wash them with water at regular intervals and give them rest after few hours' work by closing them for few minutes.
