What Causes Severe Hair Loss After Taking Synthroid 50 Mcg?

I have taken Synthroid - 50mcg - for almost one year after taking a different medication before that time. Although my hair was on the thin side, I have been losing it for the past 3 months at a rapid rate. Must wear it up with a hair clip at this point - too thin to wear it down (it s ear length). Significant loss the past three months. Can it be caused by the medication?

Hi & Welcome to HCM.
Incomplete data like age, gender, any associated illness or symptoms?
However, I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
Regarding the hair fall, it is a side effect due to Synthroid which commonly occurs during the first few months of treatment. This effect is usually temporary as your body adjusts to this medication which can be minimized by either multivitamins with minerals like Zincovit or use of Minoxidil drops or lotion.
Since you have started loosing your hairs after one year of therapy, it could be due to other causes such as androgenetic alopecia, deficiency of calcium or other minerals, or anemia.
I, therefore advise you to consult a dermatologist for proper evaluation to rule out any underlying cause and effective treatment which may also involve use of Minoxidil lotion with Multivitamins including Biotin.
Hope this will solve your problem.
A feed back is appreciated.
