What Causes Severe Headache After I Ran In Heat?

Approximately 3-4 hours after I ran in the heat yesterday, I gradually began getting a headache. It worsened to point that was almost unbearable and I seriously thought about going to the hospital. Any ideas on what this could be? I m thinking overheating, but the time frame is strange to me. It felt as if my entire frontal lobe was going to pop off.

Hello,

You are having severe headache after you ran in heat. Such type of headache is caused not only due to exposure to the heat but how your system responds to it. External factors may trigger heat headache like high humidity, direct exposure to sun glare, pollution and strong smell, etc. Heat-induced headaches can also be caused by dehydration, skipping meals, acidity, oily food, lack of proper sleep, etc.

Take adequate quantity of water, fluids, soups and juice to compensate for the sodium- potassium depletion. When you’re exposed to higher temperatures, your body needs more water to make up for what’s being lost while running as your body sweats. Avoid prolonged exposure to heat as it may cause heat stroke. Headache is a symptom of heat exhaustion. Dehydration can trigger both a headache and a migraine. Stay away from addictions if any. Take rest and relax. Take home made food and stay in a comfortable cool room.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
