What Causes Severe Headache And Bleeding In Left Nostrils?

I was working and all of a sudden I got a headache on the entire left side of my head. About 20 minutes later my left nostril started bleeding. I soaked through 7 big bunches of paper towels and I got really pale and I started shaking really bad. Should I go to an ER? My email is YYYY@YYYY

Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Spontaneous nose bleed with headache should never be ignored. You must consult ER as soon as possible.

It could be
: Nasal mass
: Hypertension
: Nasal polyp
: Arterial rupture in nose or skull base.
: Coagulation disorders

It cannot be treated at home. The doctor will examine your BP, your blood investigations, your nose, may ask for angiography of head and neck vessels.
Treatment will be decided after confirmation of diagnosis.

Meanwhile you can
: Avoid forward bending
: Avoid exertion
: Keep paper or towel applied at nose
: You can press just above your upper lip below nostril and keep head at higher level than chest to stop bleeding
: Apply icepacks over nose if you can tolerate

Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
