What Causes Severe Headache Suddenly?

my 17yr old dtr has episodes where she gets a sudden severe headache. She goes to bed. gets up shortly after, feels nauseated, does not vomit, however. c/o weakness to extremities, also extremities feeling heavy, head feels heavy, can t focus, has hot flushing feeling, and occ. will pass out, sometimes she vomits afterward. This has been an issue for about 6 or 7 years. she s been tested -HGba1c- WNL. Had echocardiogram several years ago, ultrasound of heart, ekg. She had these sx just a few minutes ago and was crying, stated, something is wrong with me, mom, help me. i am a nurse but her sx are not typical of any one thing, they actually mimic many sx. i did check her pulse, it would skip a beat approx. every 10 beats She said sometimes esp. after her soccer games she feels sick and her heart flutters. Please help, as i don t think we can afford another Er/hospital visit to be told everything is normal. i did not realize that i have to pay to get an answer. I am unemployed and cannot afford to go out or pay herer. thanks you anyway.

Hi,

First of all, you should do an CT brain with contrast to exclude blood vessels aneurysms and ultrasound on the kidney to exclude any abnormalities. Second, the regular check of blood pressure is important. If there is any abnormality in the kidneys, she should do kidney function tests.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
