I have a severe hearing problem. Even use of my hearing aids do not help me understand what is being said. Back in the seventies I had a stapesectomy done in both ears ( were done in a two year interval) and for twelve years I did have very accepable hearing with out. the use of any hearing aids it was all conduction problems then - now there is nerve damage and all speech and music sounds garbelled to me..I am 89 years old and not interested in any further surgery. Are there any other options?
Hi, you are suffering from sensori-neural hearing loss which can be age related. If such a long period was trouble free, the surgery part can be considered as pretty ok. Your hearing power is less as per history and so is the speech discrimination. Solution is in hearing aid and there are hearing aids available which can be programmed according to specific problems. So, you need to see an audiologist. Cochlear implant is another option but will be surgical which you do not want. Regards
