What Causes Severe Itchiness On The Hand After Taking Xarelto 10mg?

Hello, I have been taking Xarelto 10mg once per day for about 18 months due to an arterial fibrillation condition. Recently I scratched an itch on a vein on my right hand and it brought blood to the surface and a bruise followed. I have also noticed bruising occurring on the inside of my fingers. Should I see my doctor? Thankyou Denise

Brief Answer:
This is a known side effect of Xarelto.
I would advice you to contact your doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM.
First, is important to understand that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
Even though, easy bruising or minor bleeding (such as nosebleed, bleeding from cuts) is a known side effect of Xarelto. As you have been using it for a long time now, and it hasn't caused any side effect till now, makes important excluding the usage of any other drug which may interact with Xarelto and may have increased your risk for side effects. Some medications that may interact with Xarelto are: mifepristone, certain antidepressants, obicistat, conivaptan, certain azole antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole), rifamycins (such as rifampin), carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, etc.
Aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding when used with this medication, and the over dosage too .
As this is a symptom discovered recently, i would advice you to contact your doctor. It may be useful a blood exam added to a detailed medical history in way to prevent any future major bleeding risk.
Meanwhile, to lower the chance of getting bruised, or injured, use great caution with sharp objects, and try not to fall or injure yourself.

Hope this is helpful.
