What Causes Severe Itchiness On The Hip And Armpit While Having Diabetes?

Hello, My Mom is 87 and has dementia. For the last several weeks she has developed severe itchiness on her hip (under protective underwear) and underneath her armpit. We are not sure why. It could be the result of an allergic reaction to the underwear but she has been using this product for several years. We are trying to find non synthetic protective underwear/bra but this has been difficult. Any suggestions? She also has diabetes & hypothyroidism. She is taking Levothyroxine, Metformin, Exelon, Namenda, fish oil, iron, Vit. D, cranberry capsule & paxil. Thanks!

If she has Diabetes then she is at higher risk of developing fungal skin infections, especially if her sugar is uncontrolled. The areas which you describe such as the armpit can get quite moist and is a breeding ground for fungus such as candida. This is usually a bright red rash and very itchy. I would try applying an over the counter antifungal cream which you can buy at any pharmacy. Use as directed.
