What Causes Severe Labor Contractions For The Whole Week?

was it right for the midwifes to keep me being in labour for a whole week

During the latter stages of my pregnancy I was informed that I had a good sized baby. On the 21st of January I was exactly 38 weeks pregnant. I started labour contracting at 2 am that morning. The contractions were very painful. At 4.30 am the hospital was informed but was advised to ring back in 1 hour, which I did and arrived at the hospital at 6 am. After monitoring my contractions stopped and I was examined and told I was 1 cm dilated. I was told to go home, and to come back went the contractions got worse. On Sunday 23rd of January I became increasingly uncomfortable with severe back pain, this continued and on Tuesday 25th January I was woken with regular contractions and the pain in my back. The delivery suite was rang approx 8 am after another exhausting night. I was advised again to wait 1 hour until the contractions were 3 minutes apart . I did this and left for the hospital at approx. 10 am. I had one strong contraction whilst I was getting on the bed. Then the contractions stopped again while I was being monitored. On examination I was 1 ½ cm dilated; again I was advised to go home and to take paracetamol for back pain. Contractions started again that evening at approx 7 pm. I timed the contraction’s all night and the next day, the date is now the 26th of January. The delivery suite were rang at approx 3 pm. I was advised to come in .On arrival the contractions stopped again. I was still in severe back pain, on examination I was 1 1/2 cm dilated. I was told at this time that I had to be 3 cm dilated to be in active labour and I was told to go home and come back went I was screaming with pain, the duty midwife said that I was too happy and alert. I went home and still in severe pain and spent the entire night unable to sleep or rest due to the severity of the pain suffered in my back. On Thursday 27th of January I was 38 weeks and 6 days into my pregnancy, I telephoned my community midwife who came out very quickly when I explained about how distressed I was getting due to the pain I was suffering. My midwife advised me to hire a tens machine which I did, she was also very informative with advice on how to help my baby move down into the pelvis. I spent the rest of the day with the tens machine on, removing it at 10pm as I was told I would not be able to sleep with the tens machine on, I was so tired by this stage. I slept 2 hours and woke to sharp contractions, again they were timed for the rest of the night, the contractions were erratic and timed between 3-8minutes. The delivery suite was telephone at approx 9am and I was advised to go in, which I did. I was seen by the duty triage midwife and a student midwife. The student put the baby heart monitor around my tummy; I only had a couple of contractions but they were unable to establish the severity as the monitor was not attached well. The duty midwife came in after approx 1 hour and was going to send me home as my contractions again had stopped. My grandmother who was with me said to the midwife, if I am discharged again she was going to take me straight to the G.P. The midwife asked why we would do that. It was said I was getting exhausted. I had 1 big contraction whilst the midwife was waiting to examine me. After examination I was told I was finally 4 centimetres dilated, and congratulated in being active labour. I was told to return in 1 hour when a bed would be ready for me in the delivery suite. The student advised me to walk about and use the stairs to try and speed my labour up. I was admitted into the delivery suite at approx 1,00pm. I was monitored regularly by the student with brief appearances of the duty midwife, who gave me a good explanation of o.p. position which was the reason for my sporadic labour. This was the first time this has been mentioned, I was told if I did not dilate anymore I would be induced at 4.30pm. The student tried to induce me at 4.00pm but was not able to complete the procedure so went seeking advice of the duty midwife assigned to me. I was induced at 4.39pm by the duty midwife. My contractions immediately began to become stronger and regular and very painful,. I was still suffering severe back pain as well as the contractions. I was given gas and air at 5.15pm, I had pethidone as pain relief soon after after, at 8.30pm I was unable to cope any longer. I asked for an epidural this was given fairly quickly and I had instant relief and managed to have a few hours rest. On examination at approx 3.30am and was advised when to push my baby. By 4.00am I could feel my own contractions and I found this stage very hard I was so tired and exhausted . The red button was pushed for assistance for advice as my baby was having difficulties at approx 4.30am I was told we have to get the baby out very soon as he was getting distressed. My baby’s head appeared and it was quite a while for his shoulders to come out. My baby weighed 9lb-1oz, soon after delivery my baby screamed as if in pain and then settle to sleep and wake screaming again, this happened quite a few times and was mentioned to the midwife by my grandmother as it was very worrying and didn’t sound like a normal new-born cry. I had a grade 2 tear and a cut which needed stitching so my grandmother was holding my baby while this was being done. I went to the ward mid-morning with my baby who seemed to be settled now. We were left in an unheated room until about 3.30pm when we were moved to another room. The next day I noticed my baby twitching but was not sure what it was, as I started to get my baby undressed the twitching stopped. I left the hospital at 2.00pm to go home with my baby. On getting home my baby started to twitch several times more. At 6.00pm I telephoned the community midwife who was on duty, she was there very quickly and she confirmed my baby was having seizures . The midwife rang the appropriate department at the hospital and I was advised to take my baby there without delay, we went with the midwife straight to neo-natal intensive care. A consultant and doctor were immediately available to attend to my baby. My baby was admitted to intensive care at 9.00pm, a seizure was timed as 12 minutes duration soon after admission. Various tests were done in the next few days, resulting in confirmation of a stroke occurring, and the seizures were a result from this. At this time I still do not know if my baby will be affected in his physical, psychological, and cognitive development. could it be that the midwifes where wrong to leave me for so long and was the labour the result of my babys stroke/seizures. thank you for taking the time for reading this i hope you can help me out.
