sorry, just noticed I have to pay to get info....I tried on the WebMD page and to describe area, but it wont let me and then gave distorted answers that you can read. No worries, might need to take him to the hospital if this heating pad doesnt help

Yes heating pad will be helpful to some extent.
Give him plenty of water, and other oral fluids.
Constipation is one of the main reason for left abdominal pain.
If constipated but passing gas, you may also try,glycerin suppositories.
