What Causes Severe Muscle Spasms In The Legs While On Gabapentin For Piriformis Syndrome?

I am taking gabapentin at night for piriformis syndrome since 10/31. Since Friday night I have been experiencing severe muscle spasms in my affected leg about ever 4 hours. Tonight it s been pretty much ongoing for the last 2 hours. Could it be a side effect of the gabapentin? I am also taking naproxen and flexeril.
