What Causes Severe Oral Thrush In A 77 Year Old?

My husband has had oral thrush for 3 wks. He is taking Clotrimazole and it doesn't seem to be working. He is 77 yrs. and recently was on antibiotics for a tooth extraction and removal of a bridge cared for by a periodontist.
He is also a throat cancer survivor.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

hello thanks for consulting at hcm..since usually elders have lower immunity and added to that if they have systemic diseases like diabetes opportunistic infections like candidiasis-oral thrush could occur, in addition he also has taken antibiotics in recently, it would also have contributed, so kindly keep the oral hygiene clean by brushing with a soft brush, do salt water gargle, may also need topical antifungal like candid oral paint, so have a consultation with oral medicine specialist for check up, prescription and treatment.. hope it helps,,take care
