What Causes Severe Pain In Ankle?

Since March 3, I have been experiencing extreme pain in my left outside ankle, right on the bone. The pain feels like I'm being electrocuted, lasts only a few seconds but can repeat in short intervals for hours. EXTREMELY painful and debilitating! Brings me to my knees, literally screaming and anything and everything that I may be holding or on my lap if I am seated goes flying. If I am lucky, I may get 1 - 2 full days/week without pain. I have learned to love these days w/out the Percocet!!! I am not a fan of pain medication. The shocks occur at all times of the day, whether I am sitting, standing, walking, running, laying down - doesn't seem to matter. There does not seem to be anything that 'triggers' the shocks, nor is there any type of precursor or inclination that they are going to 'start' up.

I am on Gabapentin and Percocet for the pain. I only take the Percocet when the 'shocks' are really bad and am taking 300 mg. Gabapentin per day. These meds do not seem to be helping. The percocet at best dulls the pain a bit to where it is an 'undercurrent' of electricity. For those who haven't experienced this, I am sure it is difficult to even imagine this feeling.

I had nerve/muscular tests on Friday the 18th of March, which showed nothing. Bloodwork showed negative for autoimmune diseases, (for which I am thankful), and normal in all other areas. X-rays of my ankle showed nothing. My PCP scheduled me for an MRI Tues. the 29th. He is convinced it is a nerve issue due to the pain.

I am at a complete loss. I am a healthy 41 year old personal trainer, very active and fit. I do not smoke or drink, I eat a well-balanced diet. This is completely interfering with my work and my livelihood. How on earth can I continue to help keep folks healthy when I am in so much pain? Very frustrated, discouraged.
