What Causes Severe Pain In Stomach After Food Intake?

I feel as if someone has taken a running start at punching me in the stomach after I eat and sometimes just on its own. I went to the ER with the pain this last weekend and it started again there with extreme pain. I couldn t breathe from the pain. My blood pressure went up to 176/96 and they had to give me oxygen. This occurred an hour after they gave me morphine and nausea medication. I was checked for pancreatitis through my blood work and it came up negative. I just had a scope used about 2 years ago and nothing came of it. I am in a lot of pain almost all the time now.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Stomach pain just after eating could have many causes which are excess stomach acid secretion or acute gastritis, gastric ulcer or Helicobacter pylori infection or food allergy or stress or drug induced.

You have been tested for acute pancreatitis which came negative in the tests results.

You must undergo routine blood investigations and H.pylori, liver function tests, urinalysis and stool for blood, abdominal ultrasound and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to detect the underlying cause.

Treatment is mainly depend on the cause but you may take symptommatic treatment meanwhile.

Antacids like h2 blockers (ranitidine) or proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole or rabeprazole) will help to reduce excess acid production in stomach.

You can also take digene gel or liquid or ulcero-protective agents like sucralfate or bismuth subsallicylate to reduce the burning sensation.

Apart from medications you should,

1) eat plain foods like boiled rice and green leafy vegetables without adding spices or oil. It will help to neutriluze digestive acids and also they are easily digestible means there will be no need of extra stomach acid.

2) avoid oily, spicy and fast foods

3) avoid eating full stomach at a time rather have small meals frequently.

4) drink coconut water will help to reduce burning.

5) eat lots of fruits like banana and watermelon.

6) avoid excess tea and coffee.

7) eat or drink buttermilk and yogurt twice daily.

8) chew ginger which releases stomach gases.

9) do morning exercises like walking or jogging which will reduce your stress level.

Consult gastroenterologist for detailed medical history and clinical examination to diagnose the cause.

Thanks and Regards,
