What Causes Severe Pain In The Right Knee In A 75-year-old?

For a long time I had severe pain in my right knee when I sit for a long time. RecentliI began to tak calcium supplements totally about 1700 units per day. My right knee feels much better. Any idea why this should be? I am male and 75 and white. I backpac several times a year in Mexico

This chronic degenerative diseases generally effect single joint ,mostly knee or hip . This is more likely if your knee produces some cracking sounds.
